EDSP 6470 Parent Education and Preschool Programming for Children Who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing
This course will focus on the knowledge and skill sets required for professionals who work as Early Interventionists, Speech/Language Pathologists, and Pre-School Teachers of children who have hearing loss. Utilizing non-professional counseling strategies and developing/delivering home-based or center-based early intervention programs are the main features of the Parent Education component of the class. Creating a preschool-level academic and aesthetic environment conducive to the needs of deaf/hard of hearing children is the focus of the second component of the course. Field Experiences are required.
Session 1 - Introduction Session 2 - Early Intervention Services Session 3 & 4- Non-Professional Counseling Session 5 - Helping Parents with "Grief"
Session 6 -Student presentations on Syndromes (student powepoints) Session 7 - Parent Power
Session 8- Discussion session on Natural Environment
Session 9 - Students present on research they did on what constitutes excellence in preschool programming Session 10 - Infant Hearing Testing
Sessions 11 - Teaching sessions - Students will each plan and present lessons (student lesson presentations)
Sessions 12 - Teaching sessions - Students will each plan and present lessons (student lesson presentations)
Sessions 13 - Teaching sessions - Students will each plan and present lessons (student lesson presentations)
Session 14 - Students work as teams to create their own preschool class and program design and present their products
Session 15 - Each student will present on their Blog experience
